Salt Lake County's 2026 emissions test years

A west- or south-valley address does not create its own test rule; Salt Lake County registration controls the station and deferral doorway.

For a vehicle registered in Salt Lake County, the 2026 emissions-test question starts with model year. The county table requires a test for model years 2024, 2022, and 2020 through 1968. It lists 2026, 2025, 2023, 2021, and 1967 or older as not required.

That year list is not the whole rule. Salt Lake County publishes separate exemptions for certain vehicle classes, so check the live county page before treating the model year as the final answer.

Independent facilities licensed by the county program perform the tests. The inspection may be completed no more than two months before renewal. Before registration can be completed, DMV must receive the emission-certificate information electronically from the Health Department.

If the vehicle is temporarily outside Utah, it may qualify for Salt Lake County’s deferral route. Start with the county registration and current model-year table, then use the county page to find either a licensed station or the out-of-state deferral instructions.
