Salt Lake County’s appeal process is for a disagreement with the current year’s total market value. It does not decide whether the tax bill feels too high, and it does not review only the land or building portion. Start by matching the county parcel record to the current valuation notice.
The Assessor’s parcel search accepts an owner name, property address, or parcel number. Use the record to check the property details and assessed value, but keep the valuation notice nearby. The notice and the county’s appeal record control the filing, not a parcel-search result by itself.
For 2026, the county’s filing page opens appeals on August 1. The county process describes the ordinary period through September 15, with a next-business-day extension when September 15 falls on a weekend or holiday. It also states that the deadline is 45 days from the notice mailing date or September 15, whichever is later. Read the date on the current notice and confirm it against the live filing page before choosing a deadline.
A filing needs the appeal form and evidence supporting the market value you are requesting. The evidence must address value; filing does not promise that the Board of Equalization will lower the assessment or the resulting tax.
After the county issues its final decision, an owner may appeal to the Utah State Tax Commission within 30 days. That appeal starts through the county-auditor route described by the Commission.
Before filing, save the valuation notice, parcel record, completed appeal form, and the evidence for the requested value. Confirm the deadline and submission method on the current county page. If the county has already issued a final decision, calculate the 30-day state deadline from that decision rather than from the original valuation notice.
