Utah dark-sky parks and the night-access check

Utah’s dark-sky list is a good place to choose a stargazing trip, but it is not a promise that a park gate will be open after sunset. As of July 22, 2026, the official list had 10 Utah state parks designated as International Dark Sky Parks. Snow Canyon joined the list in December 2025. Parks still seeking designation appear in a separate group.

After choosing a park, check its own page. The park controls night entry, parking, camping, fees, and alerts. A dark-sky title also cannot promise a clear night, so check the forecast for the exact location.

For a ranger program or star party, confirm the date, meeting place, capacity, gear, registration, and any weather change with the park. That last check is what turns a dark-sky idea into a workable night out.
