Bear Lake rules: choose the shore and activity first

Fishing reciprocity crosses the state line, but park access, fishing rules, and 2026 boating requirements still need separate checks.

Bear Lake does not have one set of park instructions for every shore and activity. On the Utah side, Bear Lake State Park has three recreation areas: the Marina, Rendezvous Beach, and the Eastside. Their facilities, seasons, gate hours, construction notices, and current conditions are listed separately.

Fishing-license reciprocity crosses the Utah-Idaho line, but the rules do not merge. An angler with a valid Utah or Idaho fishing or combination license may fish both portions of Bear Lake. Follow the fishing rules of the state where you are fishing, and take only one daily limit even if you hold licenses from both states.

Utah’s 2026 boating check applies to more than motorboats. Anyone launching a boat or other watercraft in Utah must complete the annual mussel-aware boater course, including people using paddleboards, kayaks, and other nonmotorized craft. A motorized boat also needs annual aquatic-invasive-species vessel enrollment and a current-year AIS decal, separate from Utah registration. Changes described for January 1, 2027 are not the 2026 rule.

The Idaho side has its own park manager, locations, facilities, reservations, hours, and park rules. A Utah park page cannot answer an Idaho-side camping or access question, even when the same lake is in view.

Before leaving, choose the exact Utah recreation area or Idaho location, the activity, the date, and the watercraft. Open the live page for that area, then check the current fishing rule or 2026 boating requirement that applies. A valid license or completed course does not establish that a ramp is open or that same-day water conditions are safe. For the statewide license route, use Utah hunting and fishing licenses.
