American Fork and the Timpanogos Cave approach
The cave visit is a drive into American Fork Canyon followed by a 1.5-mile climb, and cave entry requires a tour ticket.
American Fork is the Interstate 15 doorway, not the cave site itself. From Exit 284, the route follows State Highway 92 east for ten miles into American Fork Canyon. The national monument is federally managed, and there is no public transportation to or inside it.
The cave trail gains 1,092 feet in 1.5 miles. Entering the caves requires a tour ticket. Tours often sell out, and tickets are released 30 days ahead.
Treat the canyon drive, the climb, and the cave tour as three separate checks. Confirm the current route and visit details, then reserve the tour before building the day around it.
