How Union Station keeps Ogden's Junction City story visible

Union Station makes Ogden’s Junction City name legible at one address. Ogden’s first Union Station opened in 1870 as rail junctions helped shape the city’s identity. The Union Station standing today opened on November 22, 1924.

The building later took on a different public job. The Museums at Union Station organization was founded in 1978, and Union Station was designated the Utah State Railroad Museum in 1988. It now preserves Utah railroading, Ogden history, and community heritage as a museum and cultural center.

That sequence is the useful part of the story. The station is not merely a rail-themed backdrop, and it is not today’s passenger-rail station. It is a surviving civic place where Ogden’s railroad era remains visible and where the city continues to interpret that history.

Museum hours are currently 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with closure on state and federal holidays. Admission is divided by age and membership category, museum events may cost separately, and prices can change.
