Utah story
Farmington's county-seat history lives along Main Street
Farmington became the Davis County seat in 1852, and its Main Street Historic District keeps more than a century of civic development visible in one bounded area.
Farmington received its name and became the Davis County seat in 1852. The city incorporated in 1892, but its county-seat role was already four decades old by then.
That timeline is still visible along Main Street. The Main Street Historic District documents Farmington’s development from early settlement through 1961, with residential, commercial, and civic resources sharing the same historic core. It is a compact way to see the city grow from an agricultural village into a twentieth-century county center.
The county-seat story and the historic-district story overlap, but they answer different questions. One explains Farmington’s long civic role in Davis County. The other identifies a documented collection of places from several periods of the city’s development.
Historic-district inclusion does not mean every building is individually protected, publicly owned, or open to visitors. It also does not identify the Davis County office that handles a current service.
Use the city’s live district page to check the district’s documented scope before exploring it. For county business, start with the current Davis County directory and choose the office responsible for the service rather than relying on the county-seat label alone.
Where to see it
