Salt Lake City courts: match the name before the address
Several courts use Salt Lake City addresses. The court named on the citation, case, notice, or filing instruction determines which doorway to use.

Use the court name before using the street address. A citation, case record, court notice, or filing instruction should identify the court that has the matter. Match that name in the live Utah State Court Directory before traveling, mailing a document, making a payment, or trying to file.
The first split is between district court and justice court. Utah district courts are courts of general jurisdiction. Justice courts have limited jurisdiction and handle most class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, traffic cases, and small claims. That distinction narrows the search, but it does not identify the correct local court by itself.
The current directory lists three separate doorways with Salt Lake City addresses: Matheson Salt Lake City District Court at 450 South State Street, Salt Lake City Justice Court at 333 South 200 East, and Salt Lake County Justice Court at 2001 South State Street. The shared city name is not shared jurisdiction. Check the named court again whenever a saved address, old form, or search result disagrees with the current notice or directory.
Salt Lake City Justice Court says its criminal jurisdiction includes alleged class B and C misdemeanor violations and infractions occurring within Salt Lake City. Its site then separates criminal cases, traffic, small claims, records, payments, and calendars. Use the route attached to the named case; the fact that something happened within the city does not send every kind of matter to this court.

Territorial jurisdiction can turn on where an event occurred, which government filed the case, and the court identified in the current record. A mailing address or ZIP code is not enough to settle that question.

Search the live directory, confirm the current address and service route, and keep the confirmation with the case papers. If the court name is still unclear, contact the court listed on the latest official record before choosing a building.
