Utah campfire restriction check

Match the exact campsite and land manager to the current restriction order before using wood, charcoal, pellets, propane, or liquid fuel.

Utah Fire Info is the statewide live doorway, not the final text for every campsite. Once the map identifies a restriction, continue to the exact land manager, district, park, field office, or local authority and read the current order's prohibited acts, dates, boundary, and exceptions.

Utah State Parks publishes a park-by-park table. Under its current definitions, Stage 1 allows open fire only in specified approved rings or grills at developed public campgrounds or day-use areas with pressurized running water. Stage 2 prohibits open fires and ash-producing grills while allowing only qualifying shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable stoves with a shutoff valve and the stated barren clearance.

Those State Parks definitions belong to State Parks. A BLM, Forest Service, NPS, county, municipality, Tribe, or private owner can phrase an order differently. Match the exact words to the exact device: wood fire, charcoal, pellets, propane grill, liquid-fuel stove, or another ignition source.

Pin the location and manager

Use the campground, site number, trailhead, road, coordinates, or parcel to identify the manager at the point where the device will be used. A county name or nearby town is not enough when public-land boundaries interlock.

If a trip crosses management boundaries, run the check for every overnight stop and day-use area. The most restrictive order does not automatically govern every parcel, and the least restrictive order never travels across the boundary.

Read the current order, not only the map color

Open Utah Fire Info, note the manager and restriction level, and continue to the linked order or manager page. Read the effective date, geographic description, prohibited acts, equipment exceptions, and any rescission or replacement notice.

Check the update timestamp. A saved map, search result, screenshot, campground listing, or social post is useful only as a lead. It is not a current restriction order.

Match the order to the fuel and equipment

Do not ask only whether campfires are allowed. Name the device and fuel: wood in a ring, charcoal grill, pellet appliance, propane fire pit, propane grill, or liquid-fuel stove. Orders commonly distinguish ash-producing fuels from devices that can be shut off, but the exact order controls the distinction.

A metal ring or grill answers where a device could be used under ordinary rules. It does not override a restriction. Hurricane Cliffs, for example, limits fires to steel rings and separately requires compliance with current fire restrictions.

Carry a no-fire plan

Plan food, water, warmth, and light that do not depend on an open flame. If the permitted stove type is unclear, use the manager contact before the trip and be prepared not to ignite at all.

Recheck after weather changes and when you arrive. Follow posted signs, campground staff, emergency closures, and the current order. Extinguish any allowed fire under the manager's rules and never leave it unattended.

Words such as campfire, open fire, charcoal, ash-producing fuel, and portable stove can lead to different branches.
A restriction can change between booking and arrival or after a weather event.
